series presents the music and dance of Górale (Highlanders)
from Poland's Tatra Mountains. Background, cultural context, and interpretation
are
provided by Timothy J. Cooley, professor of ethnomusicology at the
University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). Polish Górale
choreographer Tadeusz Zdybal illustrates in detail the basic dance
steps. Dance instruction,
filmed at UCSB, is interspersed with footage of dancing at weddings,
restaurants and festivals filmed in Poland.
