MORE DETAILS An Evening with the UCSB Middle East Ensemble The UCSB
Middle East Ensemble is composed of more than 50 musicians playing
instruments from the Middle East, including the `Ud, Nay, Accordion,
Mizmar, Qanun, Riqq, Darbuka, and others. This concert
includes
music from Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Greece, Iran and other countries
from this region. Joining the Middle East Ensemble for this concert
are Carolyn Krueger, founder and artistic director of the Los Angeles-based
Gulistan Dance Theatre,
and the Gulistan troupe. Selections include: A Solo Cabaret Dance;
Two Turkish Dances; A Set of Ottoman Classical and Urban Songs and
Improvisations; A Dabhak Dance; A Set of Sephardic Songs; A Raqs Sharqi
Dance Solo; and others. This concert was performed before a sold-out
audience at Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall at the University of California,
