8th Annual New Venture Competition

Technology Management Program

University of California, Santa Barbara, College of Engineering’s Technology Management Program offers its own “new venture” to provide meaningful educational opportunities in entrepreneurship and technology business management.
The Best Pitch & Best Business Plan award went to MedALive, members: Sam Gale, Daniel Rothman, and Felix Recht. MedALive provides clinical software to aggregate a patient’s vital signs, test results, and nursing assessments into a single score—a measure of a patient’s vitality.

The award for Dow Materials Use went to Magnetic Micro Tag, members: Arnold Forman and Brandon McKenna. Magnetic Micro Tag has designed new, biocompatible, magnetic microbeads for bioseparation processes, MRI contrast imaging and targeted drug delivery.

The Alumni Choice award went to Active Life Technologies, members: Davis Brimer and Alex Proctor. Active Life offers the Osteoprobe as the first technology to allow assessment of mechanical and material properties of bone in vivo.
