Emerging Energy Technologies Summit 2007
Session Four / Program 1

Difficult Choices for Our Energy Future

Michael L. Corradini • Mujid S. Kazini • Tim Appenzeller

To take an unbiased look at how our nation makes the transition from dependency on carbon-based fuels to a sustainable, alternative fuels-based future was this summit’s mission; as well as to present current and emerging energy technologies for short- and long-term solutions to world needs, with additional focus on the socio-economic and political factors which enable or obstruct their adoption. Experts from around the globe came together to seek alternative energy solutions, examine the trade-offs and barriers associated with marketability, and to grapple with related issues.

Michael L. Corradini, Chair, Engineering Physics and Wisconsin Distinguished Professor of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, University of Wisconsin-Madison, discusses Nuclear Power–Prospects in the 21st Century. He was appointed to the USNRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.

Mujid S. Kazimi, Professor, Nuclear & Mechanical Engineering, MIT, addresses Myths & Realities about Nuclear Power. He is the current and founding director of the Center for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems (CANES) and chairman of the MIT reactor safeguards committee.

Tim Appenzeller, presents Coal: The Future Looks Black. He is the assistant executive editor of National Geographic and won last year’s Walter Sullivan Award for Excellence in Science Journalism.
