MORE DETAILS Opening the Black Box of Cancer J. Michael Bishop Chancellor J. Michael Bishop of the University of California, San Fancisco, shared the 1989 Nobel Prize with Harold Varmus of the same campus. Their discovery of the cellular origin of retroviral oncogenes has had an extensive influence on the development of our knowledge about mechanisms for tumor development. This is the last talk in the Frontiers in Cancer Research series at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and deals with the history of scientific attempts at understanding both the nature of cancer generation and how to combat it. Dr. Bishop's talk gives a much needed overview of cancer research both historically and where it is at the present time. Program recording date and length: 4-22-05 ~ 1 Hour 20 Minutes 30 Seconds |
